Well done.Topic 1 Key Area of ImprovementYour Ideal ClientBecoming visible is very important when you’re marketing a professional services business. However, it’s so much easier to become visible to a section of people (a niche) than it is to try to be visible to everyone.Having a niche and an ideal client within that niche means that you can position yourself as an authority with relative ease, as opposed to being drowned out in the ‘noise’ that is all coaches everywhere.Topic 2 Key Area of ImprovementYour Marketing MessageCoaches are very optimistic and forward thinking professionals. That tends to translate into optimistic marketing. The problem with optimistic marketing is that it is a message that is very hard for potential clients to hear. No one buys ‘fulfilment’ or ‘contentment’ or even ‘confidence’. They buy the outcome that having those things will bring.Be specific. What problem is your client facing that is keeping them up at night? This needs to be a problem that coaching can fix.Focus on the outcome that your potential client can reasonably expect to achieve when working with you. The outcome that will appear when the problem that they have - that coaching can fix - is gone. What will their life look like? What will the better version of themselves feel like and/or be able to do?Topic 3 Key Area of ImprovementNetworkingOnce you know who your ideal client is, then understanding where to find them is simple. When you know how old they are, where they work, what their hobbies are and what they do to relax, understanding where they are is child’s play!Once you know where your ideal client is, your responsibility is to be there too, on and offline. The social media platforms that they are on are the ones you should be on too. The networking events that they attend (and ONLY the ones that they attend) are where you should be too. The online groups that they belong to should be where you are too, offering support and value - another way of saying ‘becoming visible. The very positive side of this is that you do not have to be anywhere that they are not! That’s good, isn’t it?Topic 4 Key Area of ImprovementYour WebsiteYour website is not a place for a ‘humble brag’. It's not a place to talk about you and your journey, or to talk about all the different kinds of clients you can help. I’ve seen websites that talk about helping anyone from divorcing couples to new leaders and everything in between!Your website copy should be focused on your ideal client. It should talk about who they are, what they’re struggling with and how you can help them. It should articulate what their lives will look like once they’ve removed the problem that they’re grappling with.Have an ‘About me’ page, and that’s where you talk about you and your accreditations.Topic 5 Key Area of ImprovementPricingYour pricing isn’t so much about what you want to charge and more about the value that you provide to your ideal client and what that’s worth to them. There are many coaches out there who stick to their ‘£500ph’ guns and end up with no clients. To be clear, this isn’t because there are no clients who will pay £500ph, but to do so they must a) be able to afford £500 and b) understand what they’re getting for their money.Top tip: make sure that your website has prices, or at least a price range on it. So many coaches lose opportunities to talk to potential clients because of a lack of transparent pricing. You don’t have to worry about not being able to demonstrate value (which is the reason most coaches don’t put prices on their sites) if your marketing message is spot on.Topic 6 Key Area of ImprovementSocial Media PresenceThe good news is that you don’t have to master every single social media platform. The only social media platforms you need to be on professionally are those where your ideal client is.Saying ‘I hate LinkedIn’ for example, isn’t very helpful if your client is only on LinkedIn. If that’s where your chosen client is you have two choices; one is, to learn how to use LinkedIn like a pro or two, change your ideal client!Topic 7 Key Area of ImprovementInbound EnquiriesInbound enquiries are the holy grail for coaches. An inbound enquiry is one where someone hops into your inbox and says ‘hey, I read this thing you wrote - or I heard this thing you said - and you’re talking about me! I wonder if we can have a chat please?’The ideal client way of marketing is one in which a steady stream of inbound enquiries becomes the norm. Even at networking events, you’ll have people who want to talk to you rather than feel that they got stuck talking to you!Imagine having a steady flow of people who understand what you do (amazing right?!) and want to talk to you about how you can help them. That’s what happens if you use this way of marketing.Topic 8 Key Area of ImprovementYour CommunityBeing self-employed can be a lonely thing. It’s very, very important to find your tribe. By that I mean a group of people who share your values and aspirations and to whom you can go for support and advice, as well as just a chat, whenever you need it.Do not underestimate the value of a good community!Call to Action 0-33%I know you’re struggling, but you’re not alone, in fact 82% of coaching businesses fail in the first year.
